Her efforts are... unfortunately effective, but it's keeping her out of trouble. The orchard seems like a good place to see if I can get help for her, she knows the people there at least, and maybe someone else will be able to answer my questions.

"Come on Alma, let's go to the Orchard." I try to lead her that way, and try not to get distracted by what she'd rather do.

"Hah, that is fucking awesome!" Retiaria laughed as the man showed them the axe charm's special abilities. "As much as I'd love to have that thing, maybe one of you lot would be better suited to it. Duran, maybe?"

"We are going to get them out of there and make sure the gnoll pay for... wait gnolls?"

"Well, yeah, we were told there's more than one, darl."

Quote
"leather and whips could be fun."

Retiaria chuckled at that. "Oh trust me, they are..."

Quote
"A whole bunch of us got dropped here.. I was a house maid before this happened. I don't know exactly what happened, but I ended up in this body, while he ended up with mine.. Then he ran off of his own.. We never saw him again."

"Damn, that sucks. Sorry you had to go through that..."

"Well, that looks... impressive," Naethra said.  She could imagine a full dozen ways for someone to accidentally decapitate themselves with an expanding axe like that.  And that didn't even touch on the accidental disembowlings.  It would take a master of martial arts to wield the thing without causing more damage to themselves than to their enemies.  "I agree, Duran would be perfect for the axe."

She was a little disappointed that the former barbarian wouldn't be accompanying them... but she was rather distressed at the implications he brought up.  He (she?) had begun her journey female, and had her body stolen.  If she'd inherited her fighting skills from the swap... it could explain her suicidal over-confidence by the tavern yesterday.  More prominently, though, if the enemy has powers like that...

Naethra sighed.  Everything she learned about this place made things seem more impossible.  Every new wrinkle stacked the odds ever further against her and the little party.  If this was a grand game, she rather suspected the Mistress of Lust was always ready to wipe the pieces off the table if it ever looked like she might lose.

"Well... I suppose we should get ready," she said.  "And we should probably try to collect the wizard.  Has anyone seen her?"

Duran listened to the man's story and frowned. Another poor soul lost that hopefully can find it's way to safety. The dragonborn will have to keep an eye out. However what surprised her is both Retiaria and Naethra suggesting that she should use the axe. This did make the dragonborn consider it. "Well... I prefer to fight with a shield but the two handed could still be useful if it's really sharp... but it would be pretty much just using the torch light part for me. Maybe the picks if one of us knows how to pick locks. Hmmnn wait what about Oric?" She looks back to the Dwarf with a smile.

'Would you be interested in using the axe? Hmm does Dwarves even fight with axes?" The dense dragon ponders out loud, giving the cleric a chance to claim the charm or not.

Haveing cleared the town of the goblin thugs at least for now, the five gather up back at the inn and tavern.

Gavin passes ciders all around as you begin to discuss what needs to happen next. “That gnoll will likely be hot under the collar after this, but you folks aren't the first to come through, and you probably won't be the last. Still most others have headed for the Queens fort and we haven't seen em again.”

@Dicho

Calming Alma down is the work of not a short number of moments, that leaves both of you sweating and a bit tired, but she eventually comes to be clear. She thanks you and then has the conversation you've been looking for.

With a blush she shakes her head, “Oh I don't have a hold on you. I was only saying that since you made such a cute face when I did.” She does look at your chest and hips, “On the other hand. If you were on some kind of beauty enhancing magic, raw sap from our girls might have kicked it up a little stronger.” She smiles, “Personally looking at you, I can't see a thing to complain about.”

@Ordos

At some point during the discussion you feel some manner of weight in your bag you are certain was not there before. Stepping out you open the bag to find a large heavy tome, bound in moonsilver. The cover dark as as starry night calls to you. But as you reach your hand to it, you half see a golden chain coming from it. Following the chain you look down further at yourself and see that chain going into your body.. coiled around.. something powerful and glowing. You hear that all to familiar voice behind your ears. “Do you still feel she's granting power.. or Sealing something she would find dangerous and useful to herself?”

You are not sure when it happened.. but you are now holding a small iron hammer.

The book... was beautiful.  Naethra couldn't remember seeing something so wonderful since leaving Ymirheim.  It belonged in a wizard's study, or some grand library or reliquary.  She'd read about such things... a token, a tome of secrets to seal a pact.  There would be magic inside, rituals and lore.  When she read it, she'd be a full, honest to gods witch.

She trembled.  There was a chain, gossamer and ephemeral, leading from the starry-covered tomb.  It glinted in, and and out of vision, almost impossible for her to focus on.  Breathlessly, she ran her fingers from the book's spine, down the glinting chain, and further... to herself.

Quote
“Do you still feel she's granting power.. or Sealing something she would find dangerous and useful to herself?”

Naethra was stunned.  It was that voice, her voice.  But... what was this within her?  It felt... it felt like borrowed magic, only it came from within.

She'd spent years studying in Ymirheim, never once demonstrating the faintest shred of magical ability.  She'd consigned herself to a mundane existence, eeking out her worth on clerical duties, helping the keepers of the great library as they stored and managed knowledge she would never be able to use.  Was... was the gift within her, all along?

But... why was it chained?  Wrapped and bound and utterly silent her entire life?  And... how was it connected to the book?

Naethra was glad she'd ducked away from the group.  She didn't want anyone to see this.  Her hand was trembling when she noticed the hammer within it.  The chains were bound to the book, the gift of secrets and magic from her patron.  The chains that bound something within her, pulsing with the light of magic.  Did... did the Fae Lady bind her?  How?  Why?  She tried to wrap her mind around it, only to recall that the only word, the only shred of evidence, was coming from the Lady of this place.  If she was being tempted... she couldn't imagine a finer bait.  But to what end?

She tried to think back to the night in the Wilds.  To the pact.  She had never heard her patron's voice since.  The Lady cut her off once, and had made it clear she could do so again whenever she chose.  Her magic was... tainted here.  She'd been wondering, almost dreading, that the Lady of Excess might have been the archfey who reached out to her, that this was all some elaborate entrapment.

Naethra didn't realize she was crying until the first tears curled around her green lips.  If her lady wished whatever was within her to be locked away... she must have a reason, right?  Maybe it wouldn't be one she would like, or even understand... if only she had said something, anything, to her since that night. Any glimmer of purpose, or expectations, or... or...

Naethra looked at the book, still the most beautiful thing she had beheld in years.  She couldn't remember ever feeling so alone.  "Please," she whispered in Sylvan, trying to recall every detail, and glimmer of that one meeting with her patron, "please... talk to me.  Tell me what you want.  Tell me why.  Tell me... anything," she murmured.

The book was bound to the chain coiled around her.  To break the chain... would possibly mean breaking the pact.  It had been struck in desperation, but it had been a realization of a long hope.  Of being... something better than a lowly tiefling, daemon-touched cross breed, toiling away a short and ugly life.  She'd wanted it to be about more than just survival.

"Please... if you have a reason... I'll leave it.  I'll open the book.  I'll do what you ask."  What if the Lady really was her mistress?  What if this was a ploy, and she was being to forsake the only glorious thing in her life?  What if the whole thing had been an accident, and the archfey was embarrassed about an awkward ordeal she was desperately trying to forget?

The tears were pouring now, but Naethra didn't make a sound.  She needed to escape this place, to avoid losing herself to oblivion like so many she had encountered.  She was trapped in some game with the Lady of Pleasure, and she could snip away her only real tool at her whim.  She'd always wanted to be someone magical, to be... important?  Special?  Or maybe just like the elven masters of old Selnheim?  This was a dream she'd long given up on, balanced against a hope that seemed so cruelly out of reach.  Pacts had damned her lineage before, and she had just blindly wandered into a new one when it suited her... it had been selfish, and desperate, but she had wanted to live up to it.  She wanted her Lady to be proud.

Her hand trembled.  She was shaking.  After a long, breathless moment, when nothing but silence answered.  She recalled being powerless in the forest, her new gift severed before she had even learned to use them, as the Lady of Pleasure groped her, chastised her.  If her magic could be taken away like that... then she would have no hope but what the Lady allowed.  Her breathing quickened, faltered with quiet sobs.  The silence thundered in her soul.  She feared she would lack the strength to do this if she waited a heartbeat more.

She slammed the hammer down on the chain.

The hammer comes down and the chain shatters like glass.  Neathra gets a swirl of confused immages..

Herself kneeling before a creature of indescribable beauty..

Swallowing A seed of some sort she had never seen before...

An energy welling up inside her suffering her being, before being throttled, chained, fed out to her in drops, the rest flowing along that chain.. feeding.. something...

She feels that power flow through her body, her skin darkening slightly to a more verdant green, the leaves of her head growing thicker. She can feel the power pulse with her heart, her heart pulsing in time with the beat of the world itself.

Then the moment is gone.. She is her own limited individual self again, but her power is unchained now. Her awakening is incomplete, but someday she'll learn to tap and control that power inside her heart.

Duran takes careful sips of the cider she was given. Having made sure to thank Gaven before looking over to Gwyn. Listening to her logic. "I dunno... wouldn't a lack of plan still be disadvantageous to us anyway?" She curiously asked. "Is it normal to not have a plan to throw off your oppentent?"

Taking a long swig of cider, Retiaria said "Yeah, my old master had a saying: 'Failing to plan is planning to get the shit kicked out of you'. If we just run in there with no strategy, we'll get mashed just like those guys we saw fighting here. So. A direct assault on the Queen's fortress is a bad idea. So how about we don't do that? I'm not saying just walk away, but are there any other targets we can hit to weaken her? Or maybe we could ambush a patrol, take one of them with their mind un-fucked and get them to talk. Who knows, maybe there's some secret entrance or the Queen's got some big weak spot or... I don't know, something!"

Naethra sat, alone outside the room her party planned in.  They'd notice her missing soon.

She felt... furious.  Exhausted.  For the first time in her life, she wanted to kill someone.  It was intense, a hatred that burned with a flatly painful intensity in her chest.  However, she wasn't certain who deserved her ire.  How much of what she'd just seen was real?  If it was... had she just broken a pact made in good faith?  Why was she still crying?

It took a moment, but she forced her breathing to slow, willing a semblance of calm onto herself.  She felt... different.  There was knowledge in her mind now, ideas... methods to weave the magic inside her.  It flowed and unfurled and leapt from one pattern to another, each abstract and beautiful, each a spell in her repetoire... she'd need to buy some things to make it all work...

She weighed her immediate options.  Returning to the group right now... they'd notice she'd been crying, how dishelved and distressed she was, and she didn't want to explain her situation.  She turned and left the brewery, noting the rustling of her leafy hair had grown... more full, more vibrant with her inner change.  She had some errands to run... maybe once that was finished she'd be composed enough to lie to her teammates.

Her armor felt stiff and uncomfortable now, she could feel it tug and hinter the flows of her magic.  It had never been very good, but it would have to go.  She'd see if she could trade it for a blouse, or a tunic, or just some travelling clothes... something comfortable, with pockets.  Any peasant's garb would do, but she wanted to avoid asking the Lady to weave it.

But she would have to visit the shrine.  Her lip twisted into scowl despite herself as she left her offering.  Her old spear, planted into the earth, and some of the coin from earlier battles.  "May I please have a diamond," she said, her mind focused on the whirl of color and sensation she knew would bid her magic to conjure a chromatic orb... but only with a suitable focus.  Hopefully she could come across a gem untouched by the Lady, but for now this should do.

Gwyn smiled. "Strategies aren't my strong suit. Although the last one was pretty fun. Ill keep making up stuff if you let me. Although running with these girls is a bit more than I'm used to."

Gwyn looked around, "why where is...you know, plant girl?"

Gwyn' s attention span didn't last much longer.  "I need a new drink."
Her eyes lingered on the of the bar maids wearing a similar uniform to the one Gwyn was wearing, "Excuse me ladies."

Gwyn got up and followed her back to the staff area. Gwyn flashed a smile she would use on girl before any of this started. For a moment she forgot who she was. "Hi, when do get off?"

@Renne

You slip into the back room and hit her with your best pick up line. She turns and smiles seeing you in similar uniform to herself, "Soon enough." She presses an apron onto your chest and walks behind you tieing it up at the back. A tray in your hands with some food and another round of drinks, "Go tend those adventurers while I get ready to go."

Gwyn smiles proudly under the impression that she is doing a favor before running off with the cute barmaid. "As you wish."

Gwyn takes the food and drink and traverses the  bar dodging a couple people and bring them over to my friends. I put on a smile playing the act, thinking it would be silly for me to do this, forgetting what I look like. I set the drinks and food down in front of Red, Duran, and Oric, "Fresh drinks and your food orders."

Duran gets the next drink only to blink up at the person serving it. "Um.. Thanks... Gwyn?" she says in surprise before trying to focus on helping come up with a plan. "Well I.. know it sounds silly coming from me, but maybe we shouldn't bring too much attention around by fighting them before they get more prepared... could we somehow sneak up to them?"
