Bearded Lady
Last week we had a step by step on how to apply crepe hair. I’ve kinda of wanted to shoot some of the standard circus freaks for a while, and the bearded Lady is just such a fun idea even if I was shooting at midnight. Here are some of the bearded lady images we shot after it was complete.
Zombie Playboy Bunny
On Halloween you got to see one of these images. I held a poll on my DeviantArt page to help decide what I should shoot for the Halloween image. Zombie won the poll hands down, but playboy bunny got a fair amount of votes as well. I thought it would be fun to combine the two.
So we have a before and after images. Enjoy.
Halloween Make Up 2009 – Round 2
The second weekend of doing halloween make up has come and gone and I have more images to share.
First up is a repeat of one I’ve done a few times now. There is a very cool prosthetic that looks like you have no eyes. Basically there is a black mesh that covers the eyes and the latex looks like they have been ripped out. Glue it to the head and add some blood and it’s a pretty cool effect. There is a photo of a past one in the sample book at the costume shop. People often stop on that page wondering how it is done.
Next is a slight variation of the similar make up work I did for my Freddy Kreuger pin up using the 3-D burn from Woochie. I didn’t have to cut it down to fit the face as much this time so the whole thing is visible. Also we added some glass to balance out the other side of the face. I think the glass attack is always fun with the fact that it is transparent and you can see the blood splattered on the other side. In addition I added a piece of glass into the chin to mimic the beard he shaved off so I could apply the make up.
Next we have a cool vampire couple that came based upon a recommendation given from a couple me and Ellwyn worked on the previous weekend. It’s always cool to have that word of mouth. El and I did split duty on the couple doing a little bit on each person. It worked out well.
I don’t book all of the appointments that I work on, and sometimes I don’t find out what I’m doing until they walk in the door. I was rather amused with the two girl’s idea to be a Bears Fan and a Packers Fan that got into a fight. And from the looks of the wounds it was a pretty epic brawl.
Finally, we have a family that came in and looking to be Shrek, Fiona and Puss in Boots. Ellwyn did great work on Puss, which she always does great work with cat faces. (Sorry she is a bit blurry in the image. I was refusing to use flash and therefore had a very narrow field of focus). And then Me and El did more split duty on Shrek and Fiona which really seems to work out well for us.
Hopefully I’ll have some more images to share after Halloween.
Cheer
I’ve been doing some more stock photos as the store was closing and while I had our last model I had her do some as a cheerleader that I thought I would share. The costume is a bit more old school then the very skimpy cheer leading outfits they currently use. Also I’m not even sure anyone uses pom-poms any more. Enjoy.

1990′s – Set 2
A couple days I showed off the first set of a 1990′s themed shoot. I had some second guesses on the 90210-ish outfit, and so we shot some more with something more like “My So Called Life”, or Willow from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. We shot these at the junior college I was attending while in the late 90′s.
1990′s – Set 1
Back to the time period series I’ve been working on. Today we have the 1990′s. I realize it hasn’t been that long ago, but there have been some changes in fashion. I kind of took styling on this from the original 90210, and Season 1 of Buffy. I did shoot her with a second outfit which I’ll share next time.
I decided to set her inside of a school, since I was in High School/College during most of the 90′s.
Stepford Wife
I was cleaning at my parents place and found this large remote control for car that we no longer had. I took it thinking it would be good for a shoot. The idea that came to my head later was a robot wife. completely natural thought process….ok, maybe not. In any case it was a good excuse to not clean my kitchen for a little while and to keep that box laying around.
Alice – Eat Me
A while back I shot some Alice in Wonderland images that went over every well. I thought I would shoot some more before the movie comes out and the internet explodes with Alice in Wonderland images.
Last time I had Alice shrunken next to a giant bottle. This time I opted to go for the reverse. Eat Me Muffin. Sorry, no note this time. It was too hard to write that small.
No photoshop for effects, just for color and light corrections. My friend Tina happened to have a tiny furniture sitting around. She also happens to have the giant bottle as well.
Lycanthropy
I shot this over the winter and I haven’t gotten around to sharing it yet. I wanted to show the change of a werewolf. Also I was trying out a new prosthetic. I’m not as thrilled with it as I had hoped, but I can get a different make up piece and try again sometime. I did the make up on this series adding crepe hair and more prosthesis as the changes continued.
Study Hall
I shot these images over a year ago in my old apartment before I moved. Something about the background irked me enough to not post them before. But I thought I would share.
VOP – Set 2
A couple weeks ago I did a shoot for the Visually Odd Photography Fashion & Rock Show held at the Heat Nightclub in Schaumburg. I was able to do the photos on location at the club while the models where doing a fitting and practicing for the show. The show was last weekend, and I’m now allowed to share some of the images I took with you. The show helped raise money for the American Diabetes Association.
I showed some of the images last Friday, here are the rest.

I was able to do the photos on location at the club while the models where doing a fitting and practicing for the show. The show helped raise money for the American Diabetes Association, and for the photographer that had run the show for years and was diagnosed this year and unable to run the show.
Look Out!
The other half of my last minute shoot as I prepared for the Sci-fi was more in the future space age mindset. It was a fun one to prep for as I spray painted the gun and got the play with the fog machine. Tina was kind enough to hold up the massive alien hand behind Thumper for added effect.
Warrior Princess
I was prepping for for a Sci-fi Art Show and I wanted to shoot a couple extra images before I went.
Thumper was kind enough to come out and help, as we went to an abandoned iron works in Joliet for our old ruins.
Dungeons & Dragons
When I was shooting the 1920′s shoot I also had other objectives for the night.
- The model had all period images in her portfolio, so give her an more “normal” image.
- I still had a set of D&D books on loan from a friend and I wanted to shoot them before I returned them.
Here is the result.
1960′s
Continuing with the time period theme I have couple images styled after the 1960′s. Was nice to get out and do a little bit different and run with the energy that I feel comes along with the 1960′s.
The orange phone she is holding has gotten a lot of attention. I saw it at a garage sale, and I knew I could use it in a shoot some time. There seems to be some interest in the phone from family as it is Illini Orange. Now that I’m done shooting with it, I’ll have to see who wants it.
1920′s
I’ve noticed I have shot a lot of time periods in the past, including the 1970′s, 1950′s, and 1940′s. I decided I would try and fill in the rest of the 20th century and shoot the other time period I have neglected thus far.
Today we have a 1920′s themed shoot. I opted going away from the flapper idea that is ingrained in our heads and aim for more of an everyday look.
Hope you Enjoy.
Unidentified
I was trying out a random idea a few weeks back. I’m pleased enough with the results, but the public response has been not existent leading me to think that no one liked these images. I’m going to try and take a couple more so I have a nice set of four, but in the meantime here are the first two so you can see for your self.
I know it looks like I dropped the faceless form infront of the background. However, the images were taken with the background in focus and the subject out of focus. Later the face was photoshopped out.
Events: Sci-Fi Art Shows
Over the 4th of July weekend I will be participating in two art shows at two different sci-fi conventions.
On July 2nd -5th I will have work at the CONvergence in Bloomington, MN. They will be auctioning off some Atari wall hangings as well as be selling select prints of my photography.
On July 3rd-5th I will also have work at InCONJunction art show in Indianapolis, IN. I will have limited edition canvas prints of my photos on auction and select standard prints for sale in the print shop. Both places will not have the same prints.
I will be out at the InCONjuction sci-fi show personally hanging around and checking out the show. They have a lot of interesting events going on, so it should be a good time. If you happen to find me feel free to say hi.
Orc
An other break in the posting there as I didn’t have any new work t share or anything special to say. I’ve been shooting a lot so I have a bunch of stuff to show off.
First off is some work I did to prepare for an upcoming scifi artshow (which I’ll post more about later on). I did make up in these images as well as I went to the lord of the ring inspired Orcs.
Gender Studies Tidbits
Ok, last post of the girls dressed up as guys. Honest.
I had a couple more images that I liked that I couldn’t lump into any of the categories I had posted before. So here is a before picture with the girls in enjoying a nice girls night in, and one of the pair gone emo with one as the guy.
Game Day
Even more photos of our girls dressed up as guys. Before I posted an image of the two “guys” watching football with the Packers’ fan cheering while the Bears’ fan looked annoyed. Well, I’m from Illinois and I’ve been a bears fan forever, so I need to share the images of the Bears’ fan rejoicing in victory. Go Bears!
