Daily Deviation!

DeviantArt features something they call a Daily Deviation. Everydaytheir team looks through suggestions people send in and pick the best of photography, design, digital art, traditional art, etc etc. Winners are listed on the bottom of every page, and kept in the archive of Daily Deviations.

Monday morning I woke up and checked my DeviantArt account to find I had 237 messages. This was a bit higher then the typical 3 messages that I get. After a bit of digging through messages I found that one of photos was chosen as the Daily Deviation.

Here is the featured work:

By the end of the day the photo had been viewed 7,923 times, commented on 106 times, and have been placed into other views collection of favorite images 824 times.

Come to me, my pretties

Time to get some new photos up on the site here. This was one I shot for the Josie O’Kain Website. I kinda wanted to shoot a classic green-skinned wart covered witch to promote the Halloween season. Plus it’s really fun to do the make up on it as well.

The model had a blast decked out in the nose and chin and fingertips, and she was a lot of fun to work with.

I can’t let this ugly hideous image pass by with out showing the beauty that was underneath the make up.

Also this image is now up in the gallery

Flooded

The weekend that Hurricane Ike hit Texas it continued to move up to IL. Granted a much lighter storm then what hit the Gulf coast it still dropped record rainfall in the area flooding homes and businesses all across Chicagoland. I went out documenting the flood for work and here are a couple of images.

Day on the Farm.

Went out to the family farm a few weeks back to spend a day taking photos. One of the places my grandpa took me to shoot was one of the works sheds. Lots of interesting things to shoot inside of there. Sadly I lost many of the images when my computer crashed recently. Some images made it up on to istock to live on. Yet a couple images that survived the computer pruge just can’t go to istock due to some logos. Since I’m found of a couple of the shots I’ll post them here. Enjoy.

P.S. Regular readers (all two of you) may have noticed a lack of Photo Fridays lately. I’ve discontinued those for the time being and will be posting images randomly as they are ready to be posted.

The Philadelphia Story – Opening Night

So it’s here. the play I’ve been working on at the Albright Theatre in Batavia, IL opens tonight. I think the cast is definitely ready as I’ve been watching them slip more and more into their roles as the week progresses. It’s been nice watching the pieces fall into places, as costumes, and hair, and make up, and props, and set all come together. You can see the confidence in the cast grow as all the little things help them identify with the character more and more.

Well, enough of my kind words for now. The show is going to be good, and I’m ready to sleep for a week. Which I might do. Here are some more images taken a couple nights ago. Not everyone is in costume yet, but it was starting to take shape.

Finally if you are in the area, please make an effort to come out and see the show. I think it’s going to be good, and I want these guys to have the audience they deserve. You can get info on the show at the albright theatre web site.

The Philadelphia Story – Round 2

This week in the final week of practice for The Philadelphia Story at the Albright Theatre. Many places refer to it as “Hell Week”. Basically it’s a long week of late practices every single night leading up to the actual show on Friday.

Today, we had a short practice and had to reshoot head shots due to some technical problems that happened to the first ones. Again since I had my camera with me I took some photos while the actors were doing their thing.

The stage is finished and the walls are up from the last time I posted images. But again I’m probably showing off a bit more of the space then the theatre would probably like me to show. It is a very rough, exposed, industral space. Their are nice seats there too hidden in the darkness. The man watching everything in the bottom image is the director, Eric.

The Philadelphia Story – Round 1

Part of the reason for my lack of posting lately is my involvement with the Albright Theatre’s production of The Philadelphia Story. For those who don’t know, The Philadelphia Story is a romantic comedy from the 1940′s about a debutant who is getting married to her second husband while, dealing with her lingering ex, and falling for a reporter who is sent to cover her wedding for the magazine Destiny. There was a movie made in the 40′s staring Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, and Jimmy Stewart.

Contrary to common misperceptions this is not a play based of the Tom Hanks’ drama Philadelphia.

I had brought my camera in to take some cast head shots and promotional photos for the play. Some have already ran in the in the Kane County Chronicle last week. Since I had my camera present I thought I would take some photos of our actors at work.

At the time of the photos the theatre was in the middle of renovations. They had stripped away all the walls that normally surround the actors to rebuild the stage after several years. So you may notice office chairs and an unfinished floor. Just signs of the hard work going on at the theatre.

With the missing walls there is a lot more exposed then normal. Some of the storage spaces for props backstage become visible. Beams and the brick walls from the turn of the century construction of the former windmill factory also add to the character of the building, but not necessarily to the tone of the play. So will will have more photos later with our actors occupying the completed set.

Concept of the Day – Vehicles

Every weekday MM has a small contest called “Concept of the Day”. On occasion if I have something that fits the theme I’ll enter. Today’s concept is vehicles. Here is my entry:

Photo Friday – Fireworks

Last weekend was the 4th of July. The celebration where Americans go out side to watch mini rockets launch into the air to set off colorful explosions. It’s very pretty, and hard to photograph with out the right equipment. This year I did some reading up and I got a new toy for the camera, so I went out to my home town’s extravaganza to photograph the fire works. Here are some results:

It’s a decent result for a first attempt. I learned a lot on this shoot, and I think next time I can greatly improve on the set up.

In other news concerning the blog, I may be starting a new section on the blog. I’ve been collecting strange images, and out-of-context and funny comic book panels on the computer for a while. To the point where I have lost track of the where it originally came from. I’m probably going to start putting some up. I’m not sure if they will randomly show up, or be separate post during the week. In either event I’m going to put the first one up now.

It’s Full of Supers!

I’m planning on going to the Mid-Ohio con in Columbus this October. I’m waiting on a pay check to book the table, but the planning is going on.

At the show I’m going to have prints of several images, a comic book I wrote called “Liberty and Justice”, and a ‘sketchbook’ containing alot of images that will be offered as prints. Since it’s a comic book convention I’m focusing on more comic related shots.

Between now and October I’m going to shoot 4 more comic characters for the book. So far I’m prepping shoots for Shadowcat (Kitty Pryde), Beast, and Dazzler. I’m going to shoot one other, but not decided on who.

Here is a list of characters I’m considering for a shoot. I’d love some feedback of preferences in the comments area.

+ Rogue
+ Ms. Marvel
+ Rogue vs. Ms. Marvel
+ Catwoman
+ Nightcrawler
+ Black Cat

Or do I shoot them all?

Photo Friday – Grill

It’s the 4th of July! A day to relax, cook up some burgers on the grill and to celebrate our country with explosives. This week’s images have that nice cook out feeling to them. I shot them at my own family’s cook out for father’s day. In the top image is my grandfather who was nice enough to have his picture taken. In the lower half we have the grill.
