Today is a sketch I did during the last comic con while I was sitting at my table to promote the photos. I was always amused by those old Hostess Fruit Pie ads they used to put in the comics.

10. Bizarro

Marcelo Di Chiara drew this great rendition of Bizarro from the Superman comics. It has some great lines through out it, as well as some nice damaged textures in the background. Also Bizzaro attempting the classic Superman glasses disguise is just amusing.

9. Trick or Treat

I featured this artwork from Jose Johann Jaro (aka lazeedog) earlier in the year for Halloween and I still really love it. The expressions on the kids faces are priceless. The details in this work really stand out to me, like the Star Wars Pillowcase, and the poor knock off quality of the Wonder Woman costume.

7. Batgirl

Loston Wallace provided lines for this artwork and the colors where done by Nate Lovett who I’ve seen at a couple comic cons now. I love both the smooth lines and the dark tones of this. It gives off a great retro comic, or Saturday morning cartoon vibe.

5. Something Wicked This Way Comes

As a photographer I don’t tend to look at that much photography as much as I look at comic books, drawings and paintings. So I don’t have too many photos that make it into my DA favorites folder. Mariana Filipovic has a great image of model Lea Biljman here. It has a great mood, great colors and light, and has something beautifully retro and classic about it as well.

Pirates vs. Ninjas has been one of those ongoing internet debates/memes. I’m endlessly amused on how detailed an illustration Roboworks makes of the whole things. It takes a lot of time to makes those details so be sure to click to look at it in full size.

There is seemingly nothing extraordinary about Dan Panosian’s Superman. But it’s crisp lines, bold colors, and pure elegance in it’s simplicity (thank you Middleman for that line!) that really make this image stand out and a great work of pop art.

I love the mix of the very unique hand drawn creatures interacting with real word objects in this photo by Lora (whom’s last name I can’t seem to locate. ) I had it up as my wall paper for a long time. It kinda creeped out some people who saw it.

1. Wolverine vs. T-Rex Parts 1 & 2

Ok, so the number 1 piece is actually two paintings, but they come together well as one work. Andrew Hou admits to painting the first one on a whim not really having any idea how Wolveirne could win. A while later the second image appeared on his site. I’m very amused by both and the quality is suprub. I’d personally love to be able to get a print to hang on the wall.

I still have more experimenting I want to do with this image, but I like this enough to share it.

At the show I gave all of the artists a list of possible themes to draw, so they could be creative and have some fun. I’ll let you know what the themes they chose when we get there.

I’ll start off with Andy Price. The man has been at the cons doing sketches for as long as I can remember. I get a kick out of the style and he does some fun stuff. He also used to draw the Quantum Leap comic book. I’ve been tempted to ask for a Sam Becket sketch. Anyways, Andy’s choice for the Mid-Ohio show was “A Comic Book Character set in an other Time Period” for which he drew 1950′s Batgirl. Also at the Chicago show Andy drew a Girl Gambit.

Next we have Comfort Love. Her and her artist husband do a self publish comic series called The Uniquies. Comfort took the option of “Awkward Teenage Verson of Any Character” and gave us a super emo Raven. Also I’m including her Girl Gambit from Chicago (was the popular theme there).

Now we have a sketch from Adam Withers. He works on the Uniquies comic with his wife, Comfort. He also took the “Awkward Teenage Verson of Any Character” and gave us Power Girl.

There were a bunch of the comic pros at the show. Alan Davis, Joe Kubert, etc. But the one I wanted to see and was excited to get a sketch from was Chris Giarrusso. Chris draws Mini-Marvels and did short Bullpin comic strips in the back of the Marvel comics. Chris seemed stumped for a long time sitting there staring at the blank page, but ultimately took the “gender swapped X-Men” option and gave us a Girl Cyclops.

This is the first week of Comic Panels, and the theme is going to focusing on heroes donning a clever and cunning disguise.

This is from Wolverine’s current ongoing title. Some reason he felt that dressing up in a giant fursuit of a wolverine would be scarier then how he normally looks?

I love this one. Cause he actually thinks the hat is the brilliant disguise to hide the rest of the bright red costume.

At the show I’m going to have prints of several images, a comic book I wrote called “Liberty and Justice”, and a ‘sketchbook’ containing alot of images that will be offered as prints. Since it’s a comic book convention I’m focusing on more comic related shots.

Between now and October I’m going to shoot 4 more comic characters for the book. So far I’m prepping shoots for Shadowcat (Kitty Pryde), Beast, and Dazzler. I’m going to shoot one other, but not decided on who.

Here is a list of characters I’m considering for a shoot. I’d love some feedback of preferences in the comments area.
