"What?!" Naethra panic-whispered.  There's over a dozen of them there!  We were almost defeated by just three goblins yesterday!"

Despite her emotive (but very quiet) complaints she readied herself.  They were too close.  Remembering how the group's last shot at ambush went they probably couldn't sneak away.  And they probably couldn't outrun this lot either, even with a slimmer Duran...

"Maeve's tits" Naethra swore, in Sylvan, under her breath.

Duran tried to stay quiet and look to Naethra. "I do bit worry too about the numbers but none of the goblins have those pendents we been collecting. They might not be as dangerous as the ones we faced so far... still it's the wolf girls.. gnolls right?.. that I worry bout too. I'll ready up a blessed boon when the fight begins. Would do it now but the light will certainly give us away." The dragonborn did try her best to think this though. The numbers are sorely against them but the same was felt when they encountered the kobolds yet they stood mostly tall after that. Save for... losing a few things.

Retiaria waited until she was sure the second gnoll was gone. Once she could no longer hear the water-fetching gnoll's movement, she crept up as close to the enemy group as she dared. One deep breath. Two. She took a sequinned glove from her pouch, kissed it, then tucked it away again. One final bit of preparation- with a muttered incantation, she made herself just that little bit more impressive.

Then she attacked. Springing out from the trees, she combat-rolled past a surprised goblin, coming to her feet straight in front of the gnoll, with her trident slashing at the gnoll's legs as she rose. She faced them with a psychotic, triumphant grin and yelled "What's up, bitches?!"
Her eyes were glowing red, flames flickering within them.

The party should now roll for initiative

The Gnoll that gets a Spear to the gut howls in frustration but keeps her feet..

The other gnoll flexes her claws lightning crackling along them..

The goblins all go for their swords.

"What the..."

Naethra hesitated.  This was a terrible idea.  No conerted ambush, no coordination, Red just jumped into the heart of a much bigger force.

She wondered if she should run.  If this battle was hopeless, now would be the best time to make a dash for it.  But... no, no, alone she'd just be run down.  She readied herself, but that hesitation cost her time.

(Initiative = 5)

There is a moment of stillness before the battle is joined as literally everyone recovers from the shock of the Teifling's assault.

The gnoll manages to keep her footing however.

I sputter "B-but... why??" It's not a whine. Not really. and if it is it's completely justified. How to deal with all these goblins? I only know one spell that can effect this many people at once, and it's designed to get things /away/ from me. To use it, I'd have to run in, getting them CLOSE to me first and that seems a keenly uninspired idea. Pulling on a bit more of the knowledge I've gained from observing this place, I enchant myself, appearing a less appealing target- yes, this is good, I know what I'm doing, none of this is too strange. I imbue myself with magic and allow it to shift my flesh, making me masculine and intimidating, muscular and brave! It... doesn't actually make me much better at fighting, unfortunately, but with fewer... novel distractions maybe I can come up with a better plan, and if I look less... supple, I figure I can dissuade some aggression.

Gwyn figured this might be the best time to try this. She can take as many goblins out of the fight as possible, without endangering her team since MOST of them were a bit farther away yet.
She centered the spell on the middle of the batch of Goblins and sang of bit of a lullaby.

Then tells the group, "Any of them that drop are going to be out for a minute, unless someone hits them or wakes them up."

[SLEEP - 7d8=39 HP]
[ Creatures within 20 feet of a point you choose within range are affected in ascending order of their current hit points (ignoring unconscious creatures).

Starting with the creature that has the lowest current hit points, each creature affected by this spell falls unconscious until the spell ends, the sleeper takes damage, or someone uses an action to shake or slap the sleeper awake. Subtract each creature's hit points from the total before moving on to the creature with the next lowest hit points. A creature's hit points must be equal to or less than the remaining total for that creature to be affected.]

Gwens's lullaby causes fully half the goblins to slump over and directly into a sleep. (six goblins sleeping!)

The gnoll Retaira just spiked looks at her with fury and contempt.. "Your not the first.. on your knees worm.." She then backhand slaps the Teifling.

(Retaria takes 5 damage and must make a Charisma save)
