"Aww, son of a bitch!" Retiaria cursed as she skidded to a halt. These weren't goblins at all, instead they were some other threat. And they'd arrived just too late to save whoever the woman was.
Still, not fighting didn't seem to be an option so she readied her weapons.

Naethra wondered what it would be like to not rush towards an ominous, unexplaned scream.  But she figured doing so was better than standing alone in the forest, so she rushed after Gwyn and Red.

When she saw the giants and the woman-turned-sack-of-flour she reached for her spear, only to grasp the diamond it had been traded for, instead.  "That's not how you make flour," she muttered in disbelief as she readied her focus.

Duran heard the scream and without a second thought, ran towards it's source. But any hope of saving the poor person before she is crushed by the bellies of the two other women was simply too late. "No! How can you do something so cruel!?" The dragonborn called out once they were spotted, and drew out her weapon for battle.

((My init was 14))

Lou had been more than a little distracted, nose deep in a book since they left making notes and doing equations. The math was pretty conclusive: none of what was happening was possible. The amount of energy required to do some of the things he had seen in the past few days was... well, not incalculable, he had done the calculations, but far beyond immense. Either something was going on here such that this plane of existence had lower cost barriers to such things... an intrinsically impermanent, fluctuating nature where such things were simply easier, or some being who could only be described as a god was at work, or both. If it was the first option... well that was quite exciting, honestly. Think of all the things that could be achieved in the field of transmutation magic! If it was either of the last two options... well... that was pretty terrifying.

His nose was so stuck in his book that he walked into the person in front of him as they stopped, stammering "Wait wh- ...oh. Oh I see. Well. Damn."

The the party knows the tales of these least of the giant kin. They are monumentally stupid monsters easily confused.. However they react to things they do no understand with violence and outside of the very rare specimen of their species they are violent most of the time.

They lift their clubs and laugh fat bellies jigging.. Their girth making Duran seem rather slim in comparison.. They grin and begin to advance with slow thudding foot falls.

Oric's turn.

(How am I the fastest?!)

Oric:

I decide that somebody needs to take the front line, and I'm one of the heartier members of the group. With that in mind I charge forward and try to slam my warhammer into a trolls leg with a sweeping motion, attempting to bring it down. [16+3=19] for [6+1=7] damage.

I scrabble back away from the giants... I wonder what they started out as? Well, now's likely not the best time to ask them. Still, I think I've gleaned a bit of useful information about how things work around here... enough to make a few changes of my own. At a touch, the axe grows serrated spikes along the edge, gleaming with... well, the same opalescent stuff that's on everything, but they LOOK wicked, and they glow slightly, so that's... also a plus. "It's uh... temporary." I admit as I pass "Should be at any rate... who knows around here though?"

((Duran's weapon counts as a magic weapon with +1 to attack and damage rolls for the next hour, or until I stop concentrating on it, whichever comes first))

That done, I stand behind the people with the nice pointy melee things, and lob a mote of fire at the nearest giant. They started it.

((16 to hit, if it hits, 4 damage))

As the magic flows the pealesant axe  rather than growing spiky from the touch, becomes smooth, with a more gentle curve. It's still sharp.. just more.. gently rounded..but it does give off a soft glow..

The fire hits the ogre but she seems still quite fiesty.

The ogress Oric struck takes a wider stance and swings her club smashing into the dwarf for 13 points of damage sending sensations thrilling along her body as the massive woman towers over her.

Duran felt energy surge into the strange axe she wield, watching it grow smoother and more rounded even as the glow hinted of the power within. "Thanks Lou!" The dragonborn called out before seeing the ogre go for a strong swing down at the dwarf. The dragonborn lept... or well waddled into action, rushing forward to try to strike the ogress's side. "I'll make you regret hurting my friends and that other adventurer!" She called out as she swung, yet despite the power within, it was a clumsy attempt.

Tentatively, Naethra took a few steps back.  These monsters were tremendous... a solid hit would kill her under normal conditions, and here... it may do much worse.  She made a very concerted effort not to look at the bag of flour that had been a person while she readied her focus and held the gleaming, glinting diamond.

A part of her was excited.  This would be the first spell she'd ever actually cast.  Another, much larger part of her was terrified that this would somehow blow up in her face.  She channeled, projecting her will and her new, strange energy, fracturing and coalescing through the diamond in her fingers.  She sends a glinting orb of thunder forward, colliding with the tremendous brute.

(Naethra casts Chromatic Orb at level 2, focusing the slightly injured ogre: 14 + 5 to hit, 4d8 damage: 7 + 2 + 6 + 5  = 20 Thunder Damage)

Durans might swing goes wide of the barn door sized target, but Naethra's thunder orb flys true with energy crackling all around the ogres as she starts to get flush with excitement and gives the plant kin girl a come hither stare....

Oric:

I shudder at the hit, feeling the wave of pleasure shoot through me... Normally the pain of being hit discourages fighting, and makes only the heartiest individuals fight on the front lines. If I'm not careful I might find myself growing less cautious as I lose that instinctive fear of being hit.
