Convention season continues with Mighty Con Madison 2016. This is my 3rd time up to Madison for Mighty Con. This time instead of being on the edge of town we are in the heart of the city at Monona Terrace. It is a beautiful venue. I hope we continue using this space in the future. I look forward to returning. I think the attendees enjoyed it as well as we were greeted by heftier crowd than in the past.
This time around I took some extra time and ventured up the day before the convention to visit my cousin and his wife. I normally see my cousins quite often, but the last couple years have been harder for everyone to get together for holidays and events, so I think I had almost gone 2 years without seeing them.
They had recently moved up to Madison, so it was a good opportunity for all of us to explore a little bit of Madison and to sit down and talk outside of the family setting. Our family gatherings are reasonably large, so it can be difficult to have a quiet conversation or dig deeper out side the traditional, “How’s work? How’s school? Seeing anyone?” questions. They are still new to the Madison area, so if you know some places they should absolutely check out, leave me a comment below and I’ll pass it on.
Getting back to Mighty Con Madison 2016, I did have a commission to share this week. I sketched up Jessica Jones for a woman who was simply excited to have a hero like her on TV, but was disappointed with the complete lack of merch for her.
I tried to play a little bit with the water color purple look they do on a lot of the promotional materials, but held back so I didn’t mess up the sketch. I was fairly happy with how it came out and I thrilled to sketch it up for someone.
No postcard for this event yet, but I’ll be making one still. If you would like to receive a special con postcard, send your address via my contact form.
Next weekend, I’ll be in Lexington, KY for Lexington Comic and Toy Con. I hope to see you there.
