Coming back to draw more groups of the Justice League was a bit more difficult than I had originally thought. I know there were times that did not have Superman, Batman or Wonder Woman on the league, but those times are hard to picture sometimes. So for making subsequent groups of Justice League I opted to create my own teams, unless there was a predetermined team in place, like Justice League International.
In making up my own teams for Justice League line ups, I looked into representing a bit of the balance that is the main traditional group. You have a well trained human, a powerhouse, an alien, comic relief, and a mix of personalities and skills that need to rely on each other.
Green Arrow and Black Canary bring a human element to the team. They are well trained, but outside of her scream are without super powers. Shazam has a mix of power and innocence from being young inside. Vixen brings some magic to the table. Red Tornado is a robot slotting into the alien role. Plastic Man is the comic relief, even as he seeks his own redemption. Also it seems as if no team is complete without a Green Lantern, and Hal is happy to take the ring.
I’ve been a bit mean to Hal with a little bit of refusing to draw him and making him the last Green Lantern I draw. I’ve previously included John Stewart and Guy Gardner on Justice League teams. But I’ve largely neglected Kyle and Baz, largely being unfamiliar with them. I feel Hal is a bit of an outdated character. His qualification to be a Green Lantern being a job that hasn’t really been cool or cutting edge since the Jet Age. Where are John has a story that I think people can relate to and understand.
