I found my way to Firefly long after it was canceled. I was a fan of Buffy and Angel while they were on the air, and it was a no-brainer to go watch Firefly. Unfortunately being young with a social life, I wasn’t home much when it was on the air. I happened to be home one week and gave a random episode a try. I was so lost that I turned it off after 5 minutes.
It wasn’t until much later did I come back and give the show a second chance on DVD. That was even with much prodding from friends. I went out and bought a cheap copy of the DVD series and gave it a watch. Instantly I fell in love with it once I was able to watching from the start, in order. It was easy to fall in with the characters and the series.
Knowing the movie was coming soon to finish the series, I rewatched it, this time sharing it with my dad before I moved out. I could just watch the joy on his face as he watched it. Sometime after I had moved out my dad developed a brain tumor, and as his condition worsened I waited for the movie, Serenity, to come on DVD so we could watch it together before it was too late. It was a little selfish on my end of things, but I’m glad I was able to share that with him.
