Art Libs

Quick post today.

I’m the featured artist for the day on a blog called Art Libs. It’s a fun thing where I got to play a little mad libs and then answer some interview questions about the artwork.

If you like you can check out my feature here.

New Year/New Stuff

We are several days into 2010 now, and it’s been a couple quiet months on the site. Things have been keeping pretty busy here under the surface. Just to give an idea of that is coming up this is what I have been working on.

  • Working with Rich on Shift. We are expecting restarting that comic on 3/1/09.
  • I’m writing an other comic that I’m drawing a well. It’s a love story.
  • Booking my conventions for the year to promote Shift and my work.
  • Making a comic for one of the conventions Due Jan 24th!
  • Plenty of new shoots on the way as well!

That’s what’s on the agenda here. Hope you all stick around to check it out.

Costume Sale

I’ve worked fro a long time with Josie O’Kain’s Costume Shop in Joliet, IL. Sadly, this year will be ending their 50 year history and the store will be closing for the last time.

As a result they are currently selling off everything in the store before the doors shut for the very last time on October 31st, Halloween. So if you are in the area, please go and help them out and buy your halloween costume there this year. They are selling off all their rental costumes and all the retail items are for sale. As we get closer to the end fixtures, and etc are available. Everything must be sold.

Thanks.

Atari

3x3-small

In the previous post I mentioned I had made some Atari wall hangings. I had the leftover games from a shoot I did a while back and I thought I could make something cool out of them. Currently I’ve sent to a an art show in MN to be potentially auctioned off over the July 4th weekend.  If any of them don’t sell and don’t go back up on my wall, Imay be looking to sell on etsy or ebay, or something fun.

Anyways for those that are curious here are some images of the sets.

Events: Sci-Fi Art Shows

scifiartshow1Over the 4th of July weekend I will be participating in two art shows at two different sci-fi conventions.

On July 2nd -5th I will have work at the CONvergence in Bloomington, MN. They will be auctioning off some Atari wall hangings as well as be selling select prints of my photography.

On July 3rd-5th I will also have work at InCONJunction art show in Indianapolis, IN. I will have limited edition canvas prints of my photos on auction and select standard prints for sale in the print shop. Both places will not have the same prints.

I will be out at the InCONjuction sci-fi show personally hanging around and checking out the show. They have a lot of interesting events going on, so it should be a good time. If you happen to find me feel free to say hi.

Skyscraper : Aftermath

If you noticed that the blog has been a little slow during the last two months it’s because I’ve been directing a play called Skyscraper by David Auburn with the Albright Theatre in Batavia, IL.  Normally during production I would bring my camera to a couple practices and snap some photos and post some progress here. This time that never really happened. Partly since I was directing this time around and couldn’t really step aside during practice to take photos. Secondly I was working on a second project at the same time and I would have never been able to prep the photos for the web.

But finally on the last weekend of performances I was able to take some photos of the show from backstage while the actors were doing their thing. So if you were unable to make the show, or just want to look at some photos from it, here are some images from Skyscraper:

Bring the Asylum Street Spankers to Chicago!

asylum_street_spankers-767760Hey folks, a band I like is taking it easy on the road trips and will only be going to towns where they know they can get a good turn out. I know they can get a good turn out here if they come. So I’m asking you to click the box and add your zip to being the Spankers back to Chi-Town.

Merry Christmas!

It’s Christmas Eve, and I’d like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy Holidays. Unfortunately I don’t really have any Christmas photos, so I leaving you with a random Batman/Superman comic panel.

x-mas

Happy Black Friday!

It’s the Day After Thanksgiving, so that means time for massive sales at the stores. So to the people who are up at 2 am preparing their finest winter clothing to wait in line for Target to open up at 5 am to buy that $200 42′ LCD Television that the employees have hidden, or already bought for themselves before the doors opened, I will tell you this : I’m asleep in my nice warm bed.

But I do have a shopping tip for the morally vague. Inspired by this image I found.

In order for this image to be taken the photographer had to be inside before the store opened. So there is your ticket in. Grab a camera. Knock on the door and say you are from the local paper, and you have an instant ticket to the front of the line where you can wait inside the warmth of the store.

Happy shopping!

Skipping a Couple Days

I’ve been trying to keep posting on a regular basis with the Mon-Wed-Fri thing. I missed yesterday and there will not be a post on Friday either. Basically, I have nothing to post. I ran out of photos.

Fear not, I shot a ton of stuff this past week, and even more stuff this up coming weekend. There is more stuff on the way.

All is good.

InsomniacDining.com

I’ve been working on a brand new website in my spare time. It’s called Insomniac Dining. It is an archive of places that are open late and still serve food. So you can find a somewhere to chill and relax in the middle of the night where ever you are.

It’s come out of some frustration after moving and doing theater in new places. Often times practice and shows get out late and we still haven’t had a chance to eat, and most places are starting to close there doors. We need a place to go.

I’m going to ask for some help from all of you out there. I only know of a few places to go to throughout the entire country. I need your help for all the places I don’t know. If you click on ADD on the Insomniac Dining site you can add any places you know on your own.

Thanks.

Skyline Chili

My dad traveled a lot for work. He got around enough that he knew exactly what food each city was best known for a get a little excited to try the different things as the business trips took him. One of the places he liked was Cincinnati chili.

I went out there last year to visit a friend of mine, and of course had to get some chili. It’s some very good stuff. So when I went out to Columbus for the comic con I had to stop at a Skyline Chili on my way back and have some chili and bring some back for my mom and sis. Had to take some pictures as well so they can see what the finished 3-Way chili looks like. Enjoy.

The Philadelphia Story – Round 1

Part of the reason for my lack of posting lately is my involvement with the Albright Theatre’s production of The Philadelphia Story. For those who don’t know, The Philadelphia Story is a romantic comedy from the 1940′s about a debutant who is getting married to her second husband while, dealing with her lingering ex, and falling for a reporter who is sent to cover her wedding for the magazine Destiny. There was a movie made in the 40′s staring Cary Grant, Katharine Hepburn, and Jimmy Stewart.

Contrary to common misperceptions this is not a play based of the Tom Hanks’ drama Philadelphia.

I had brought my camera in to take some cast head shots and promotional photos for the play. Some have already ran in the in the Kane County Chronicle last week. Since I had my camera present I thought I would take some photos of our actors at work.

At the time of the photos the theatre was in the middle of renovations. They had stripped away all the walls that normally surround the actors to rebuild the stage after several years. So you may notice office chairs and an unfinished floor. Just signs of the hard work going on at the theatre.

With the missing walls there is a lot more exposed then normal. Some of the storage spaces for props backstage become visible. Beams and the brick walls from the turn of the century construction of the former windmill factory also add to the character of the building, but not necessarily to the tone of the play. So will will have more photos later with our actors occupying the completed set.

Asylum Time

Tonight, I’m going to go see the Asylum Street Spankers in Chicago. I know, you have no idea who they are. Check out the video clip below to get a feel for the humor/country/swing/blues/old timey music.

Record Store Day!!!

Today (April 19th) is Record Store Day. In order to support the small independent record stores (yes some still exist) we are encouraging everyone to find their local store and buy a CD. I know it’s like $15-$20, but it will help the state of the music biz.

The more small record stores go out of business the more giant corporations like Best Buy get to choose what music is available for the masses to purchase. So come and help out the little guy.

Also some places are having specials, give aways or live performances. Go to www.recordstoreday.com to read more and to find a particpating record store near you.
