128 – Chicago Comic Con

Today I went to the Chicago Comic Con, I still call it Wizard World. I accomplished most of what I wanted to do there yesterday, so today, I took alot of photos to capture the event and give people an idea about it.

037 – Harley Sketch

Quick entry of my neighbor at Summit City Comic Con, Jesse Garza, drawing a sketch of Harley Quinn.

Trek Sketch

Something I did during SPACE comic con in Columbus, OH.

Spring Con Sketch

Back from Spring Con this past weekend. I normally attend these shows as a writer and photographer. This year has been the first time I’ve billed my self as an artist. Side effect of that is that I do some sketches at the show. I was asked to do a couple during the show and when I had some down time I did one for my self that is seen here. Jim Keefe, the writer/artist for the Flash Gordon newspaper strips, was next to me at the show and once I started the sketch of my girl, I decided to make it a little Flash Gordon inspired.

027 – Wednesday Comics

Today is comic day, here’s a pic from the store I frequent. Enjoy.

Power Girl – White

I’ve been wanting to try to use a negative space idea with this character for a while. She has a enough items that are solid color and areas that have texture to pull it off. I think it went ok, but I want to hear what you think.

Power Girl – Blue

I’ve been wanting to revisit shooting the character Power Girl for a while. I think I got some fun stuff out of it. And I did a bit of experimenting with shots that I still need to edit, but in the meantime I thought I would share this one for now.

May 1 – Free Comic Book Day

I wanted to give a heads up that tomorrow, Saturday May 1, is Free Comic Book Day. It’s an annual day to get people more exposed to comics. So head down to your local comic store tomorrow and they will set you up with a set of comics that you can explore and see what you like. They are giving away soem great stuff including Superman, Iron Man, Love & Capes, Mousegaurd, and my favorite The Tick! (which is in Rachel’s hands on the right there)

I’ll also be selling hard copies of the first 2 issues, copies of the short story Liberty and Justice, and I’ll have some select photo prints available as well. I’m at table 92. So if you are in the area be sure to stop byand say hi.

Visit the SPACE website for more info.

Shift Preview

I’m going to be drawing Shift starting at the end of the month, and I thought I’d put up a sample image of the low quality work that will be featured after Rich’s fantastic work on the comic.

Enjoy.

I Have a Feeling That’s Not Her Real Name

WEEK 3 – SWEET TREATS

More fun theme sketches for the DA group. Again I’ve been drawing stuff based of quotes that pop in my head when I hear the theme. This time around was Spike from Buffy & Angel watching a stripper and saying, “Is that right? Funny, thought I knew exactly where I was. Place called the Peppermint Stick. Prima ballerina up there’s Sunshine. Though I’m fairly certain that’s not her real name.”

I had to look that up to get it right. Thanks you obsessive fans.

Also you may notice that this sketch is color vs. my normal b/w. Well, I got new pens for christmas and since I left the old pens somewhere else, this is a good chance to play with color until I can get my old pens back.

I Knew I’d Kill You in a Hall of Mirrors

WEEK 2 – REFLECTIONS

On DeviantArt I’ve started contributing to a group called #weeklies. Mainly the idea is that they suggest a topic each week and everyone draws something on the topic and sends it in. It’s a good way to keep drawing and try new things.  The theme for this sketch was “Reflections”.

I went the Simpson’s quote routeand attempted to illustrate the like of “I always knew I’ll kill you in a hall of mirrors” Most of this was done traditionally. I have a couple spots that were blank when I cropped it into my square and I drew them in with the pen on the wacom tablet.

Liberty & Justice Sketch

Looks like I had an other bit to share on my Liberty & Justice comic. A while back I had a quick sketch of Kid Liberty done by Matthew Humphreys to help save an online community called The Void. I thought I’d share the sketch with you.

SHiFT Update

After a 3 year absence I am in the works to bring back a comic I was writing called Shift. Tentatively Rich will be returning with brand new art work. We plan to start continue working on the comic Mid-November. My goal will be relaunching the site with new pages Jan 1, 2010. I will point out this is the plan. Any number of things could happen between now and then, but in the mean time it’s a good opportunity to reread the comic.

It does occur to me that this may not be the best way to reach everyone who was reading the comic, so please feel free to share this post with others and spread to word. I’ll do my best to not disappoint.

Liberty & Justice – Aftermath

The last 8 posts have been featuring a comic I wrote called Liberty & Justice. I thought I’d share a bit more from the comic and share with you the first couple sketches of the character I got from the wonderful, talented artist who drew the short book for me.

Also, I’ve been kicking around other ideas with the comic about continuing the story several years later and asked the artist to give what she thought Kid Liberty would look like as an adult.  Here it is.

That’s all for Liberty & Justice. Thanks for sticking with the blog, as I’ve been sharing. Hopefully we’ll be back to our regularly schedule programing of photography on Monday.

Liberty & Justice – Page 7

I’ve kind of run out of photos to post on the site for a bit. October doesn’t leave a lot of time to shoot sadly, so until I get some new stuff I thought I would share a comic I wrote called Liberty & Justice. It’s 8 pages, and I’ll post a page a day. I was selling at a couple comic shows for $1 and still may continue after posting it here for free, as I have a few left over. Tomorrow, I’ll be posting the final page.

Comic Covers – Resurrection Man

It’s been a while since I’ve talked about or posted about comics. I know I’ve posted from great artwork from some artists and drew my own, but the actual comics have gone by the way side.

I wanted to take a moment and give some attention to a couple of my favorite comic books covers. They are from a comic series called Resurrection Man. I picked up a couple issues at the end of the run, and I can’t say I was impressed with it, but I love a couple of the early covers of the comic. I know very few people have heard of it and I wanted to share them before they vanished entirely from the public consciousness.

The covers were drawn/inked by Jackson Guice. I like the element of the soda company in the art, were as it seems they have their own corporate superhero. I’m not sure what happens inside the comics, but I enjoyed the cover art.
